'God or Karan Johar...?' Lakshya opens up on shelved films Dostana 2 and Bedhadak, shares his comeback mindset

Actor Lakshya Lalwani is currently riding high with the success of Aryan Khan's directorial debut series The Ba***ds Of Bollywood. However, his career hit an unexpected wall before The Ba***ds Of Bollywood. Two of his most anticipated films- Bedhadak, alongside Shanaya Kapoor and Gurfateh Pirzada, and Dostana 2, initially starring Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor under Dharma Productions- were suddenly shelved. These projects were meant to follow his breakout role in the historical drama Porus (2017-18).
Lakshya Opens Up...
On Raj Shamani’s podcast, Lakshya opened up about the emotional fallout. He felt “blank and numb,” yet he clung to hope that the twists in his career “were happening for a reason.”
Turning Setbacks Into Strength
Lakshya said, "So why should I stop doing that? That’s what’s made me. Who do I blame? God? or Karan Johar? I can’t blame anyone na. The film got shelved, and that’s it. For some reason, I had the self-belief that it was happening for a reason. Tables would turn one day. There wasn’t a single day throughout Covid when I didn’t work hard."
Instead of sinking into disappointment, Lakshya focused on daily discipline- voice lessons, scene rehearsals, workouts, and honing his craft. For him, every small effort was a step toward an eventual breakthrough.
Acting: A Path Chosen by Chance
Lakshya aadmitted he never set out to be a star. Acting stumbled into his life, and that unexpected journey helped him handle rejection. Reflecting on early offers after Porus, he recalled a high-paying TV opportunity, which he took on his father’s advice.
Still, he wrestled with the question: “Why couldn’t I become a movie star? What was I lacking? If others were making it, why couldn’t I?”
Lakshya's Next
Despite past disappointments, Lakshya is riding a wave of momentum. He leads Aryan Khan’s Netflix debut, Ba***ds of Bollywood. Meanwhile, Dharma Productions has reshuffled Dostana 2, with Vikrant Massey coming on board while Lakshya continues to remain associated with the project. Rumours hint that Laapataa Ladies actress Pratibha Ranta may join as the female lead, though official confirmation is awaited.
