29 fire incidents reported in Gurugram on Diwali night

On Diwali night, a total of 29 fire incidents were reported from different parts of Gurugram, primarily due to the bursting of firecrackers. Among the most serious were two major fires — one at a scrap warehouse in Rathiwas village, which continued to burn even after 20 hours and another at a photo frame showroom in the densely populated Old Gurugram area, which was razed to the ground. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

A senior fire officer said to tackle the blazes, fire brigade vehicles and personnel from various stations were deployed throughout the night, rushing between locations. While no lives were lost, property worth several lakhs of rupees was destroyed.

According to the fire department’s report, fire calls were received from 29 locations across the city on Diwali night. These included a fire in the slums of Nathupur, a garden in Sector-32, a shoe warehouse in Sector-28, a residential property in Sector-47 and vehicles in two other areas. The two most significant incidents were at the photo frame showroom in Shivpuri and the scrap warehouse in Rathiwas village. Fire brigade teams reached the sites within an average response time of 10 to 15 minutes and managed to bring the fires under control promptly.

Officials said the warehouse in Rathiwas, used for dismantling old vehicles, refrigerators, air conditioners and electronics, contained highly flammable materials such as vehicle compressors, oil, diesel, petrol, rubber, fibre and plastic. These fuelled the fire and made it difficult to extinguish quickly.

“To control fire incidents in time, fire tenders were stationed at nine locations across the city,” said Gulshan Kalra, Deputy Director of the Fire Department. “On Diwali night, we received 29 calls related to fire. Most incidents were related to garbage and scrap, and our teams managed to control the flames in a timely manner. There were no casualties.”
