Squid Game star Lee Jung-Jae’s immense global popularity has taken an unfortunate turn after his identity was used in a shocking romance scam. The Elaborate Impersonation: ‘Lee Jung Jae’ Online

According to JTBC, the victim- a woman in her 50s- encountered the fake Lee Jung-Jae through social media. The impersonator claimed he wanted to “communicate with fans,” and began sending her AI-generated selfies, supposedly taken “at the airport.” To appear more convincing, the scammer even presented a forged ID card and pretended to be filming “Squid Game 3.”

From Flattery to Fraud

As conversations grew more personal, the scammer began calling the woman “honey” and “darling,” tricking her into believing she was in a genuine relationship. Another fraudster joined in, posing as a “business executive,” and promised an exclusive meeting with Lee Jung-Jae in exchange for 6 million KRW.

Over the next six months, the group kept demanding more money under various excuses, eventually swindling the victim out of nearly 500 million KRW.

“I truly believed he was the real Lee Jung Jae. Looking back, I feel so foolish,” the woman said in an interview.

Police Trace the Crime to International Network

Despite the ongoing police investigation, the impersonator reportedly kept messaging her, pleading, “Please trust me.” Authorities from the Miryang Police Department in Gyeongnam Province suspect the scam may be linked to a Cambodian-based crime network operating across borders.
