Afghanistan all-rounder Ismat Alam has been handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Test match against Zimbabwe in Harare on Tuesday. The debutant admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, the ICC said in a report.
23-year-old Ismat Alam sent a ball dangerously close to the batter Tafadzwa Tsiga during the one-off Test. The incident took place during the 90th over of the home team’s first innings. The charge was laid by on-field umpires Adrian Holdstock and Nitin Menon, along with third umpire Forster Mutizwa and fourth umpire Percival Sizara, the ICC said in a report.
Ismat was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match.” According to the ICC's official website, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
It was not a memorable Test debut for Ismat Alam as he was dismissed for 8 and 16 across the two innings by the African opposition.
