Odia couple in Bengaluru ‘dies by suicide’, hanging bodies recovered from rented house

In a deeply tragic incident that has left the Odia community in shock, a young couple from Odisha’s Keonjhar district was found dead in their rented house in the Jubuni police station area of Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as 28-year-old Rakesh Patra and his wife, 26-year-old Seemarani Patra, hailed from Telkoi Deuldiha village in Keonjhar district. Police suspect that the couple died by suicide, although the exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
According to preliminary reports, the couple had been residing in Bengaluru for nearly three years and was employed at a local sewing company. They reportedly fell in love while working there and got married soon after.
However, sources close to the family revealed that Rakesh had quit his job two months ago. Since then, frequent arguments and domestic disputes had reportedly strained their relationship.
Neighbours grew suspicious when the door of their rented house remained locked since Sunday. On Tuesday, a foul smell and the lack of activity inside prompted them to alert the police. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered both Rakesh and Seemarani hanging inside the house.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police officers from Jubuni station have registered a case and initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to contact their families in Odisha and complete the formalities for the repatriation of the bodies.
