Annual puja mahotsav marks Vishwakarma Day in Phagwara

The 115th Shri Vishwakarma Annual Puja Mahotsav was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm at the Vishwakarma Mandir, Banga Road, tehsil Phagwara. The event was organised by the leaders and members of Shri Vishwakarma Dhiman Sabha, Phagwara, under the leadership of its president, Pradeep Dhiman, to mark Vishwakarma Day.

The celebrations began with a flag-hoisting ceremony performed by Mahinder Singh Manku, an NRI from Canada, amid the chanting of hymns and prayers in reverence for Lord Vishwakarma, known in Hindu tradition as the divine architect and craftsman of the universe. The temple premises were beautifully decorated and a large number of devotees from nearby towns and villages participated in the day-long programme to offer prayers and seek blessings.

Addressing the gathering, Harbhajan Singh ETO, Cabinet minister in the Punjab Government and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), paid tributes to Lord Vishwakarma and highlighted the vital role played by skilled workers, artisans and craftsmen in the progress of society. He lauded the Shri Vishwakarma Dhiman Sabha for organising community service programmes and contributing to social welfare initiatives in the region. Acknowledging the sabha’s efforts, the minister announced a donation of Rs 5 lakh to the Vishwakarma Charitable Trust to support its ongoing welfare activities.

Ashok Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) representing the AAP, also addressed the congregation and described Lord Vishwakarma as the divine engineer of the gods, whose creations symbolise perfection and craftsmanship. Commending the sabha for its commitment to social service and community unity, Mittal announced the donation of two dialysis machines to the Vishwakarma Charitable Hospital Trust to enhance healthcare facilities for the underprivileged.

During his address, the members and leaders of the sabha appealed to Mittal to initiate steps for renaming Banga road as Vishwakarma Road in honour of Lord Vishwakarma. Responding to the appeal, Mittal assured the gathering that he would raise the matter with the authorities concerned and make earnest efforts for the fulfilment of their demand.

The grand celebration witnessed the participation of thousands of devotees who thronged the temple throughout the day to pay obeisance. The event was marked by devotional performances, community meals and cultural presentations reflecting the reverence and unity among followers of Lord Vishwakarma.

Several prominent dignitaries attended the event, including former Union Minister of state Som Parkash, Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, Lok Sabha member Raj Kumar Chabbewal, district in charge, AAP, Kapurthala, Sarabjit Singh Lubhana, Rampal Uppal, Mayor of Phagwara Municipal Corporation and Mohinder Bhagat, Cabinet minister.

All leaders in their brief addresses extended greetings on the occasion and praised the teachings and legacy of Lord Vishwakarma, emphasising the importance of dignity of labour and craftsmanship in society.

Mohinder Bhagat also announced a contribution of Rs 5 lakh to the Vishwakarma Charitable Trust. The event concluded with prayers for peace, prosperity and unity, followed by a communal feast attended by devotees and guests.
