'Thamma' box office collection day 3 early estimates: Witnesses a noticeable drop

Thamma is going slowly on its third day at the box office. The two-day figures of the film have been underwhelming as it is and a further drop on Day 3 makes it a tough start for the film. Despite the festival phase and Diwali holiday release, Thamma has only managed to Rs 41 crore nett in its opening two days.

 

The opening day came to Rs 23 crore nett, an extremely below-par figure for a horror-comedy with a franchise factor to it. Such films with a Diwali day release should be doing upwards of Rs 35-40 crore nett. Even with a small-scale film releasing alongside. However, Thamma just hasn't had any decent pre-release buzz and the film has received mixed reviews after release.

 

When you compare the drop in collections from Day 2 to Day 1, things don't look too bad as the hold in collections is good. However, the problem is that the opening day number was low in itself. Ideally, Thamma needs its third day to be almost similar to the second day figures but that will not be the case.

 

The morning shows have already indicated a five percent drop in occupancy while the afternoon shows have seen about 15 percent dip. Technically, it is a working day but the ticket prices will remain mostly in weekend rates as the post-Diwali festivities continue across the country, especially in places like Gujarat.

 

There should be a decent jump in the evening shows but the night shows will once again notice a dip in occupancy and collection. As per early estimates, the third day numbers tell us that Rs 10 crore is guaranteed for the film and it might be heading towards a Rs 12-14 crore nett figure. The night figures will tell us exactly where it will finish in the day.

 

This will take the three-day numbers of the film to approximately Rs 52-55 crore nett. It is a reasonable opening and comfortably the highest for Ayushmann Khurrana but a film of this scale should be opening to a much higher number. With the high costs involved, there is still a long, long way to go for Thamma to emerge a success.
