Maruti Suzuki has achieved a significant feat on the global automotive stage. Its Jimny 5-door SUV has surpassed 100,000 units exported worldwide since shipments began in 2023, marking a major milestone for India’s automobile exports.
Suzuki Jimny, the “Made-in-India” compact SUV, is now shipped to over 100 countries, including key markets such as Japan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Chile.
In Japan, where the SUV is called “Jimny Nomade”, the vehicle was launched in January 2025 and received an overwhelming response, with 50,000 bookings within just days of its debut.

The SUV, built on a ladder-frame chassis, is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and equipped with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO four-wheel-drive system, making it an ideal contender for both city driving and off-road adventures.
Popular among off-road enthusiasts, Jimny is also compact and affordable compared to its competition—the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha—both born out of India’s love for oversized SUVs.
For Maruti Suzuki India, the Jimny 5-door is the second most exported model after the popular Fronx, with the company shipping over 3.3 lakh vehicles in FY 2024-25, accounting for nearly 46 per cent of India’s total vehicle exports.
Company MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi told agencies, “The Jimny’s export achievement reflects over half a century of global heritage, and our success is rooted in India’s manufacturing excellence. It’s a proud moment for us to see the Jimny delighted users across the globe.”
The vehicle's success also underlines the ‘Make in India’ mission to produce vehicles for the world. Maruti Suzuki still holds its reputation in India as a reliable source of quality vehicles, as it sold the most vehicles in the country this festive season.
And now, with exports, Maruti Suzuki is writing another chapter into India’s automotive industry, as the country looks to carve its niche in global vehicle manufacturing.
