Is corporator Amaresh Jena joining BJP? Buzz builds after grand welcome after jail release

Speculation is rife over whether corporator Amaresh Jena will join the Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following his recent release from jail. Jena, who was released nearly three months after his arrest, received a grand welcome on Thursday.
Such speculation gained momentum after BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan was seen greeting him with a bouquet of flowers, accompanied by several supporters.
The gesture has triggered political buzz within local circles, with many viewing it as a possible indication of Jena’s shift towards the BJP. However, no official statement has been made by Jena or party leaders regarding the matter so far.
However, BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan’s remarks have fuelled speculation. Praising Jena, Pradhan said he has always been close to the people, standing with them through both happiness and hardship. He added that the BJD and party chief Naveen Patnaik had distanced themselves from Jena during his difficult period, calling it an injustice.
Speaking on the matter, BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan said, “It is our duty to congratulate him upon getting justice and being released from jail. If he wishes to join the BJP, I will be very happy as a young and strong leader would be joining us. When he agrees, I will discuss the matter with my party members.”
Amaresh Jena’s Response
Amaresh Jena was arrested nearly three months ago in connection with a case involving allegations of sexual assault on a minor and was later granted conditional bail by the Orissa High Court on October 17.
After his release from jail, corporator Amaresh Jena expressed gratitude towards Lord Jagannath and reiterated his faith in the justice system.
“Those who conspired against me for my political and social downfall have lost today,” Jena said. “I believe in Lord Jagannath and our justice system. I pray that the Lord forgives the conspirators, as I have. I do not know who they are, but soon the truth will come to light,” he added.
Jena’s remarks come amid speculation about his next political move following his release. While Jena has not confirmed his next political move, Pradhan’s statements suggest that the BJP may be open to his inclusion.
