BIS seizes 100 LPG stoves without standard mark in Vasai raid
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has seized around 100 domestic LPG gas stoves during an enforcement raid at a manufacturing unit in Vasai, Maharashtra, for alleged misuse and violation of provisions under the BIS Act, 2016.
Acting on specific information, officials from the BIS Mumbai Branch Office conducted a raid on Thursday at M/s Bharat Enterprises, located at Navkar Nisar Industrial Estate No. 3, Dhumal Nagar, Waliv, Vasai East, Palghar district, the bureau said in a statement.
During the inspection, the team found that the company was manufacturing and storing LPG gas stoves without the mandatory Standard Mark and BIS certification as per IS 4246:2025, in violation of Sections 17(1) and 17(3) of the BIS Act, 2016.
“The violation is punishable with imprisonment of up to two years or a minimum fine of Rs 2 lakh, or both,” the statement said, adding that action is being initiated to file a case in court.
BIS urged consumers to verify the authenticity of ISI-marked products through the BIS CARE mobile app, available on Android and iOS, or by visiting its official website (www.bis.gov.in).
Citizens have also been requested to report instances of sale or manufacture of products without BIS certification or misuse of the ISI mark to the Head, Mumbai Branch Office, Western Regional Office, BIS, Powai, Mumbai, or via email at hmubo1@bis.gov.in. The source of such information, BIS said, will be kept confidential.
