Janhvi Kapoor shuts down ‘Buffaloplasty’ rumours: What you need to know about the viral lip lift surgery

Recently, on a talk show, Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle, actress Janhvi Kapoor had to shut down claims by random social media account holders.

What were the claims about?

According to Janhvi, 'self-proclaimed doctors' went on to analyse the surgeries that she undertook to change his body features. She mentioned they claimed she had undergone 'buffaloplasty' surgery. The term caught everyone's attention, eager enough to know about the viral claim.

What is Buffaloplasty?

It is a surgery that is performed to correct the elongation of the area between the nose and the mouth. This is done by making the upper lip look fuller.

How is it performed?

A narrow incision is made under the nose, and the upper lip is lifted. This surgery is performed under local anaesthesia and post operative care is to be taken for complete recovery.

This kind of lip lift gives the mouth a more pronounced, youthful appearance without using fillers or implants to increase volume, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Usually, the procedure takes less than an hour, but it will vary person to person. The benefits of the surgery include giving the appearance of fuller lips, improvement of smile and a boost in self confidence.

Experts at the Cleveland Clinic say the recovery time for the surgical site to heal is around 6-8 weeks. Lips may feel tight for a couple of months.
