Quit her job in US, returned to India to support farmers, this 63-year-old woman built Rs 2500000000 company, she is…, her business is…

Have you ever met a woman whose determination could transform lives? Well, 63-year-old Anju Srivastava, CEO of Wingreens Farms, did. According to the News18 Hindi report, after leaving a 25-year career in the US, Anju was most moved by the plight of Indian farmers. She began working to help Indian farmers when she returned to India.

Who is this inspiring 63-year-old woman who left her life in the US behind?

Anju observed that the farmers in India had extensive land, yet their pockets were empty. Seeing this, Anju felt determined to help. She rented a small area of farmland for this venture and employed the farmers. Anju planned to grow exotic herbs, then sell them. She believed this would be a profitable business. Unfortunately, the business did not go as planned. There were no buyers, none of the herb plants sold, losses were incurred, and there was a lot of excess herbs.

What made her quit a stable, high-paying job and return to India?

However, Anju did not allow herself to be discouraged. She put her mind to work and came up with a brilliant idea. She turned the basil into pesto dip and began selling it in small city shops under the name Wingreens Farms. Over time, her idea began to pick up steam. People loved it so much that sales started to snowball from positive word of mouth alone.

Anju noted that India lacked healthy, authentic dips and sauces, as seen in the US. She developed over 20 flavors, continued supporting farmers, and slowly Wingreens dominated the market. At their high point, they had captured 90% market share, with annual sales exceeding Rs 250 crore now. Anju’s journey serves as motivation for every Indian.

It is never a simple task to leave behind the glitzy life abroad and return home. Anju did not just create her own empire, but empowered thousands of local farmers in the process — simply by transforming a plain, local herb, like basil, into epic, tasty dips. Today, Wingreens Farms dips are found in kitchens all over India. Anju’s journey also proves the magic of India’s startups — you just have to be the one to go after it.
