Plus 2 student electrocuted by boar trap while visiting ‘girlfriend’ in Odisha

In a tragic incident, a minor boy lost his life after coming in contact with a live electric wire allegedly set up for hunting wild boars in Aligaon village under Semiliguda block of Koraput district, Odisha, on Friday night.

According to reports, the deceased, a Plus Two student, had gone to meet his girlfriend when he accidentally touched an electric trap laid in a field. He was electrocuted on the spot.

According to reports, the minor had spoken to his girlfriend over the phone before going to meet her. The two met at the location, where the youth accidentally came in contact with a live electric wire set up in a field to trap wild boars. He was electrocuted and died instantly. The girl reportedly rushed back to her village and alerted locals about the incident.

Following the information, the boy’s family members and villagers from both sides reached the spot and found him lying dead. Police were informed and arrived shortly after, and launched an investigation.

Suspicions Over Origin of Electric Trap

Questions have been raised regarding who set up the electric trap and for what purpose. It is suspected that local farmers probably laid the wire as a preventive measure against wild boars, which are known to cause damage to sweet potato crops in the region.

Police Response and Investigation

Police officials reached the location and pacified the agitated locals, assuring them that action would be taken against those responsible. They also confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the person who had installed the electric trap, sources said.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the minor’s death and to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
