Duma - Dubai Museum of Art
The UAE is set to get a new landmark, which will be located on an island in the heart of Dubai creek.
Dubai Museum of Art (Duma) is expected to position the city as the capital of "modern art and a global destination for creativity."
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, posted photos and video of Duma on Friday.
"A museum floating on the waters of Dubai Creek to increase its brilliance," he posted on X.
Sheikh Mohammed said Duma will "reflect Dubai's civilised spirit" and function as a mirror of its culture and arts. "It adds a new variety to its features and its architectural beauty palette," he added.
He thanked Abdullah Al-Futtaim and his son Omar Al-Futtaim for developing the arts museum. He said it represents a model of the responsibility of the private sector towards its society and its incubating city.
"Cities are complete with culture and art. and prosper in the economy. Its sustainability is consistent and consolidated when its private sector is responsible, participatory, and in line with its public sector. This is what we see in Dubai," he added.
The creators of Duma said the design of the structure is inspired by water, sky, wind and light. The architecture of Duma embodies the symbols of the shell and the pearl.
The five-floor museum will bring in captivating artistic and human experiences and showcase works by both renowned and emerging artists. It will also house a library for learning and training. There will be restaurants, cafes and artistic spaces overlooking Dubai Creek.
More than a museum, Duma is a destination where the the world gathers for art and culture, according to the developers.
