Brentford vs Liverpool: Despite four-match losing streak, Jordan Henderson says Liverpool don't have a weakness

Liverpool are going through a nightmarish phase this season. The initial games did give a hint, as the defence was getting opened up regularly but the scoring prowess compensated for that as the Reds got off to a flurry of wins. However, that seems a long time ago as they are now on a four-match losing streak after the 2-3 defeat away to Brentford.

Jordan Henderson, one of Liverpool's finest players during their prime under Jurgen Klopp, played a key role in Brentford's iconic win on Saturday (October 25). It was an emotional day for Henderson who had a 12-year career with the Reds but showed no signs of that on the pitch as he put on an inspiration show to rally the Bees together.

While he is understandably buoyed about Brentford's win, Henderson was also quick to defend his old team which is going through a rough patch at the moment.

“Liverpool are a world-class team with world-class players,” said Henderson in a post-match interview with TNT Sports.

"You look all over the pitch, there's not much to go at, they're all quality players. I don't really see a weakness in the team."

Liverpool's summer signings were mentioned by pundits to be the best amongst all teams in Europe's top-five leagues. After staying dormant in the 2024-25 window, Arne Slot's side spend a truckload of money this year to land a plethora of star signings. Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez were the big acquisitions for Liverpool in the transfer window.

While this is an embarrassment of riches for a side that already has Mohammad Salah and Cody Gakpo, Slot admittedly hasn't been able to adjust to the modified squad just yet. Losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid was also a huge blow, given the right-back's undeniable genius as a provider in attack on the right flank. Henderson, though, feels that it is only a matter of time before Liverpool bounce back.

"I know there's been results of late that haven't been great for them but, for me, they're still top players and a top, top team and it's just a matter of time before they get in a rhythm and get going."

"I think there's been a lot of reasons why they haven't hit the heights from last year but they're still a world-class team and wherever you look on the pitch there's to players, so it's always going to be difficult."

Henderson also lauded Brentford's relentless work ethic in the fixture as they constantly put Liverpool's midfield and defence under extreme pressure. Slot in previous press conferences had often mentioned about how opponents were using the long ball tactic against Liverpool and pointed at it being a key factor in deciding games. Brenford, though, chose to be patient and were relaxed in possession.

"I thought from start to finish we stuck together. We knew it would be difficult at times. The way we defended together, the way we stayed composed on the ball and try to, rather than just kick it forward at times, it's trying to play the long ball in behind to someone running in, like Dams (Mikkel Damsgaard) did for Kev (Schade) on the second goal."

"And [Igor] Thiago was a threat all night and he’s been like that all season to be fair. We've got a lot of good players on the counter-attack with the front three. We've got people like Dams, Yarmo (Yehor Yarmolyuk) and the centre-halves who can pick passes as well. Overall, I think it was a really good performance and we deserved the win in the end."
