Painter arrested for killing wife in Manali’s Aleo village
The serene atmosphere of Manali was jolted by a gruesome murder in Aleo village, where a painter from Bihar allegedly killed his wife by slitting her throat inside their rented accommodation.
The police said the incident came to light today when Rohit Kumar (37), a native of Mangalpur village in West Champaran district of Bihar, allegedly attacked his wife, Nidhi, with a sharp-edged weapon, killing her on the spot.
Kullu SP Karthikeyan Gokulachandran confirmed that Rohit Kumar had been living in a rented house owned by Ramnath in Aleo with his wife and young daughter. “Our team rushed to the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The accused has been taken into custody and formally arrested after initial questioning,” the SP said.
He added that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the brutal act. “We are exploring all possible angles to understand what provoked the accused to commit such a heinous crime. The forensic team has been deployed to collect evidence from the scene,” he said.
Police sources said it remains unclear whether the couple’s minor daughter was present when the incident occurred. The child has since been provided with care and counseling following the traumatic event.
Appealing for calm, the SP urged the public not to circulate unverified information, assuring that the investigation will be conducted impartially and in accordance with the law.
The shocking murder has left the local community in disbelief, casting a shadow over Manali’s otherwise peaceful environment. A case of murder has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. — OC
