Noshir Soonawala, a veteran of the Tata Group was close confidant of the late Ratan Tata. After clashes in Tata Trust over some appointments, he has spoken out about the ongoing internal differences within the Tata Group. The major disputes arose within Tata Trusts, which has a majority stake in Tata Sons. The matter even reached the government  when some Tata officials even met with two senior ministers in Delhi to discuss the issues. 

He said, “It’s sad to see what’s happening at Tata, as I’ve dedicated almost my entire career to this group,” Noshir Soonawala told TOI. “I hope the trustees of the Tata Trusts will resolve their issues.”

Who Is Noshir Soonawala?

Soonawala was close not only to Ratan Tata but also to Ratan’s younger stepbrother Noel Tata and Noel’s mother, Simone Tata. Noshir Soonawala was also a former vice-chairman of Tata Sons. He worked with the group for over four decades and played a major role in Tata’s financial affairs.

He was at key roles like:

  • Vice-Chairman of Tata Sons: He was appointed the first vice-chairman of Tata Sons in 2000.
  • Financial Specialist: Known as a financial wizard, he guided the group’s financial operations.
  • Board Member of Several Tata Companies: He served as a director on the boards of many Tata companies like Tata Investments Corporation, Tata Motors, Indian Hotels, and Trent.
  • Trustee of Tata Trusts: He also served as a trustee of Tata Trusts but retired in 2019 due to health reasons.

He retired from the Tata Group in 2010 but is known for his loyalty to Ratan Tata and the group, often regarded as a trusted advisor and financial expert within the organization.
