Women's World Cup: What happens if Mumbai weather washes out the India-Australia semifinal?

It is the business end of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 with Australia, South Africa, England and India being the four teams to qualify for the final four of the tournament. South Africa are the only team to not be affected by rain in the tournament while the other three semifinalists have all been affected at least once.

Mumbai weather alert

South Africa will take on England in the first semifinal in Guwahati on October 29 while India hosts Australia in the second semifinal in Navi Mumbai on October 30. Weather has been a huge factor in this tournament, especially in the Colombo leg, affecting New Zealand the most with three no-results that ultimately influenced their qualification in the tournament.

The Indian leg largely saw no interruptions but the signs were ominous during India's final league game against Bangladesh - a match that was eventually washed out. Now, the Mumbai weather is threatening to affect the second semifinal between India and Australia in Navi Mumbai. It has been raining constantly in Mumbai and showers are predicted on match day too, albeit not as high as previous days.

What happens if the semifinal and final is washed out?

The second semifinal and final is being hosted in Navi Mumbai, which makes the weather forecast a massive factor for the two games. Firstly, it is about India-Australia game. If the game ends in a no-result, Australia will qualify for the final by virtue of having a higher position on the points table.

Since the Aussies finished first on the table, they would also be awarded the final if there is another washout, regardless of who their opponent is. It would be an anti-climatic end to the tournament but this is what the playing conditions of the tournament state. All eyes are now on the ominous Mumbai weather.
