New Expressway: 8 new expressways will be built in UP, 30 districts will benefit

Expressway Proposal in UP: Uttar Pradesh already surpasses other states in terms of expressways, and now there’s a proposal to build eight new expressways. This construction will cover approximately 30 districts in the state. Work on some expressways has already begun.

New Expressway: The Chitrakoot Link Expressway is the first proposed expressway in Uttar Pradesh. This approximately 120-kilometer-long expressway will connect Chitrakoot with Varanasi and Banda districts. Once completed, it will provide better connectivity to Chitrakoot Dham and make it easier to attract tourists. The project was approved in July 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Construction of another expressway in Uttar Pradesh will soon begin, connecting Jalaun district to the Bundelkhand Expressway. This expressway, which will be built along National Highway 27, will span approximately 115 kilometers. Initially, it will be a four-lane expressway, but there is a proposal to expand it to six lanes later. Land from approximately 63 villages will be acquired for its construction. It is clear that not only will the land prices in these villages increase, but industrial activity will also accelerate.

The Vindhya Expressway, the longest of the proposed expressways in Uttar Pradesh, will be approximately 320 kilometers long. This expressway will begin in Prayagraj and extend to Sonbhadra via Mirzapur, Varanasi, and Chandauli. The budget has already been allocated, and the project will be completed in two to three years. Its construction is estimated to cost approximately 23,000 crore rupees.

There is also a proposal to build the 100-kilometer Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway to connect the Vindhya and Purvanchal regions of Uttar Pradesh. This will further strengthen connectivity in eastern Uttar Pradesh. This corridor will promote economic development and tourism. This link road will connect the Vindhya Expressway near Chandauli to the Purvanchal Expressway near Ghazipur. Its construction is estimated to cost approximately ₹7,000 crore.

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing a link expressway beyond Meerut to provide direct connectivity to the religious city of Haridwar. Currently, an expressway exists from Ghaziabad to Meerut, which will be extended to Haridwar. In Meerut, this expressway will connect with the Ganga Expressway coming from Prayagraj. This will provide direct connectivity to Haridwar in eastern Uttar Pradesh. A budget of ₹50 crore has already been released for this project.

A new 90-kilometer link expressway is underway to connect two major expressways in Uttar Pradesh. This road, called the Agra-Lucknow Expressway Ganga Link, will connect the Agra Expressway to the Ganga Expressway via Farrukhabad. A budget of ₹900 crore has been approved, and work is expected to begin by the end of 2025. The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹7,488 crore.

To directly connect Uttar Pradesh with Madhya Pradesh, the government is preparing to build the Chitrakoot-Rewa Link Expressway. The government is planning to construct a 70-kilometer expressway from Chitrakoot to Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. This road will also connect directly to the Bundelkhand Expressway, providing direct connectivity between eastern and western Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

The most notable of the new expressway proposals will be the Jewar Link Expressway, which will connect the Yamuna Expressway to the upcoming airport in Jewar. This project has received both approval and funding. Construction is expected to begin by the end of this year. It will connect Jewar Airport to the Yamuna Expressway and Ganga Expressway via Bulandshahr.
