Rajinikanth to retire after multi-starrer film with Kamal Haasan?

Rajinikanth is arguably the greatest superstar from Tamil cinema among the biggest names that Indian cinema has seen. Earlier this year, the 75-year-old completed an unbelievable feat - 50 years in cinema. His powers may be waning and that is inevitable, but Rajinikanth's charm and stardom remain intact.

The latest buzz in the industry is that the much awaited multi-starrer film with Kamal Haasan could be Rajinikanth's farewell film. At least, that is what the Thalaivar reportedly has in his mind. As things stand, this ultimate reunion of Kollywood's biggest legends might not take off until 2027.

Initially, Lokesh Kanagaraj was touted to helm this big-budget film that is being produced by Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) but reports claim that his script wasn't approved by Rajinikanth owing to excessive violence. Meanwhile, Nelson, who is currently working with the Superstar on Jailer 2, has a script that seems to have both the veterans interested.

However, with Jailer 2 slated to release only next year, Nelson reportedly wants a bit more time before he can crack the full script of the project. Should it be approved officially, the release might happen only in 2028. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth has another project with RKFI that will be directed by ace director Sundar C. An announcement on this project is expected soon.

Apart from Jailer 2 and Sundar C's untitled film, Rajinikanth had also given an open date to seasoned Bollywood producer Sajid Nadiadwala. There is no update regarding that project yet but it is also likely to wrapped up within 2027 before Rajinikanth moves towards the multi-starrer project with Kamal Haasan.

Will it really be his farewell film? Only time will tell but sources within the industry feel that it might be the last outing for Rajinikanth.
