Doraha student shines at youth fest, bags 9 awards
Amanpreet Singh of Guru Nanak National College brought pride to his parents and institution by securing nine victories at the youth and heritage festival which concluded recently at SCD Government College, Ludhiana. He returned to his institution with a sense of pride, clutching his awards tightly, hardly able to contain his excitement.
Last year, Amanpreet showcased his prowess by participating in eight events at the festival and impressively clinching awards in all. Building on that stellar performance, he returned this year with even greater enthusiasm and won nine positions. Amanpreet participated in a total of eight items, including group song, group bhajan, folk orchestra, folk instrument, vaar, kali, kavishri, classical vocal etc. He won three first prizes in group bhajan, folk song and bhajan (individual), four second prizes in classical vocal, kali, kavishri and group song and two third prizes in vaar and geet. He is now all charged to prove his mettle in the forthcoming inter-zonal festival at AS College, Khanna.
Amanpreet’s journey began in Class III. He honed his skills under the mentorship of his teacher Preeti, while studying in Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri School. As he progressed to Class V, he joined the music academy of Harwinder Singh Bittu, who instilled in him a new dimension of musical expression. Amanpreet’s consistent participation in his school activities earned him the title of ‘Shastri Idol’. Apart from his hard work, he is fortunate to have a family that nurtures his love for music. Amanpreet’s home is a symphony of diverse melodies with his grandfather adoring classical music, granny religious tunes, mother ghazals and father pop music.
Amanpreet attributes his success to his guru, Prof Rampal Banga, who has contributed commendably to his growth as a singer, ever since he joined the college in 2024. He also extends his gratitude to his seniors Amanpreet Singh, Nagender Singh and Fariyad Ali.
Acknowledging Amanpreet’s achievements president of Guru Nanak Managing Board Harpratap Brar said, “The college is proud to have a student like him. No doubt Amanpreet has a bright future and shall work wonders in future competitions as well. He will continue to excel and make a positive impact on other participants as well.”
