Project TAL: Watch trailer of Korean mythology-based PlayStation game

Earlier this week, PlayStation gave us a much-needed sneak peek of a brand new AAA game being developed on Unreal Engine 5, and it was quite a feast!
See for yourself!
Project TAL is the new action RPG coming to PlayStation 5. This single-player, open-world game has been officially announced, and it looks like it could be much beyond a PS Exclusive (for now!).
Game overview
Apart from the action-packed trailer, here is what we know about Project TAL so far.
Project TAL is an AAA single-player action RPG being developed by MADNGINE and published by Wemade Max, both Korean companies.
The game draws inspiration from Korea's traditional "Tal" masks, ceremonial masks used in folk theatre, shamanistic rituals, and storytelling.
From the get-go, the trailer shows us characters with these masks and reimagines them alongside Korean mythology and folklore into an epic fantasy open world.
All hail the new Unreal Engine 5.
Platform availability
The official announcement mentions "consoles and PC", but it was PlayStation's official YouTube channel that uploaded the game's trailer, confirming a PlayStation 5 release.
The game is not confirmed as a PlayStation exclusive. Multiple industry reports also claim that it's planned for PC and potentially other consoles as well. But do note that no Xbox or Nintendo Switch versions have been officially announced yet.
Game development
MADNGINE is a South Korean game development studio founded in 2020 by veteran developers with experience in online RPGs.
The studio previously developed Night Crows, a successful MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) that achieved over $10 million in global sales within three days of launch in 2024.

Project TAL will mark their entry into the AAA single-player market, championed by the Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei, the God of War, Death Stranding, and more...
Wemade Max, the publisher, is a subsidiary of Wemade Entertainment, the Korean game company known for the Legend of Mir series of MMORPGs.
Possible features and gameplay
From the trailer, here are a few distinctive mechanics we noticed:
Monster climbing: Players can leap onto massive creatures, scale their bodies, and target weak points for devastating attacks (Remember God of War 3?)
Dynamic companions: AI NPC allies with unique abilities, personalities, and combat roles (defence, support, melee, ranged, magic) that adapt to the player's combat style will come to your aid (this could mean it could emulate an MMORPG).
Tactical combat: Fast-paced action with counterattacks, skill combos, and seamless cooperation between companions could be key to finishing major boss fights
Probable release timeline
Project TAL is reportedly targeting a 2027 release for both PC and consoles. The game's announcement trailer, released on October 23, 2025, surpassed 1 million views within three days on YouTube.
The trailer also saw rave reactions from the gaming community. But just like us, most people in the comments also drew parallels to Black Myth: Wukong and Monster Hunter. Hopefully, the underlying Unreal Engine 5 tech would give us something breathtaking to put these obvious comparisons to rest.
