Dularchand Yadav
In a shocking incident, Dularchand Yadav, who was once a close aide of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, was shot dead in Mokama on Thursday while campaigning for Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party.
During the election campaign for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, a violent clash broke out between two groups. In the scuffle, Dularchand was shot in the chest and died on the spot.
Local reports claimed that Dularchand was rammed with a car after he was shot.
Who was Dularchand Yadav?
Dularchand was a close aide of Lalu Prasad Yadav and one of the popular faces of RJD in the past. He assumed prominence in Mokama Tal area in the 1990s when RJD was in power under Lalu. He is also credited with helping build RJD from the scratch when it was formed in 1997.
Dularchand's family accused JDU candidate and former Mokama MLA Anant Singh of plotting his murder. An FIR has been registered and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
In a Facebook Live, JSP candidate Priyadarshi alleged that Anant Singh's supporters attacked his car. Slamming the JDU candidate, he said the poor cannot be oppressed and the people will not forget Dularchand's death.
However, Anant Singh alleged that RJD strongman Surajbhan Singh killed Dularchand, adding that 10 vehicles in his convoy were also attacked.
Mokama will witness a three-way contest in November, with RJD's Veena Devi, wife of Surajbhan Singh, locking horns with JDU's Anant Singh. Prashant Kishor's JSP has projected Piyush Priyadarshi as an alternative to the two main alliances.
