Bhagwanpuria brought to Batala from Assam, sent to three-day police custody

Gangster Jagdeep Singh, alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was brought to Batala from the Silchar Jail in Assam last evening.

He was driven to the city from the Amritsar airport amid unprecedented security to ensure that he was not targeted by his rival groups.

He was sent to three-day police custody by a local court on Thursday in a case pertaining to the murder of rival Gurpreet Singh Gora (33), alias Gora Bariar, on May 26 outside a fuel station at Ghuman along the Sri Hargobindpur road. Bhagwanpuria’s close aide Nilson Massih was taken into custody in the case.

In July, the immigration authorities arrested the gangster’s sister-in-law Lovjit Kaur, wife of Mandeep Singh, from the Amritsar airport in connection with the Gora Bariar murder case. She was on her way to Australia and was apprehended on the basis of a look-out circular.

SSP Suhail Qasim Mir said Jaggu had been brought to Batala after obtaining necessary approvals from various authorities.
