In April, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder was increased by ₹50. This increase occurred after almost a year. LPG has now become a basic necessity for the general public, but controlling prices is difficult without improving production and the supply chain. The biggest challenge facing the government is striking a balance between growing demand and dependence on imports.

In 2015, India had 149 million LPG connections, which will increase to 329 million by 2025. This means that every family of four will have a connection. However, domestic production has remained stagnant at around 12-13 lakh tonnes for the past eight years. In 2024-25, only 11.7 lakh tonnes were produced compared to the projected consumption of 28.6 lakh tonnes. As a result, LPG imports have increased by 20% in 10 years. Now, domestic prices are dependent on the international market.
