Public Holiday List 2026: The festive month of October has ended, and there are very few holidays in November and December. However, you won’t have to worry about holidays next year. Schools and offices are expected to have approximately 50 days of holidays in 2026. However, due to some festivals falling on holidays, the holiday calendar will reduce the number of holidays by nine next year. For the next year, starting January 1, 2026, government employees will receive 31 public holidays and 19 optional holidays, making a total of 50 government holidays.

Next Year’s Holiday Calendar

The holiday calendar is issued by the Department of Personnel and General Administration. Employees can choose to avail only two of the 19 optional holidays. The 2026 Holiday Calendar includes 12 weeks in which government employees will receive three holidays each. Public holidays for various festivals have been added to Saturdays and Sundays, reducing the total to nine. In addition to these official holidays, the District Magistrate can declare up to two public holidays per year at the local level in the district. However, the Finance Department issues a separate holiday calendar for bank employees.

Holidays for Makar Sankranti and Basant Panchami in January

In 2026, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on January 14th. Several other festivals, such as Magh Bihu or Pongal, also fall on this day. Basant Panchami will be celebrated on January 23rd. Republic Day is a national holiday on January 26th. Ravidas Jayanti is on February 1st, Mahashivratri is on February 15th. Dayananda Saraswati Jayanti on February 12th, and Shivaji Jayanti on February 19th are also holidays in different places.

When is Holi?

When is Holi next year? This question will be on everyone’s mind. In 2026, Holika Dahan will be celebrated on March 2nd, and Dhulandi on March 3rd. Holi will be celebrated on March 3rd, and a holiday has been declared on that day.

When is Eid ul Fitr?

Eid ul Fitr is on March 21st, Ram Navami on March 26th, and Mahavir Jayanti on March 31st. Good Friday is on April 3rd, Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14th, and Vaisakhi is also falling.

Janmashtami is on Friday, September 4th, and Ganesh Chaturthi is on September 14th. Gandhi Jayanti is on October 2nd, and Dussehra is on Tuesday, October 20th. Karva Chauth is on Thursday, October 29th.

When is Diwali?

Durgashtami is on October 19th, Diwali is on Sunday, November 8th, and Govardhan Puja is on November 9th. Bhai Dooj is on November 11th, and Chhath Puja is on Sunday, November 15th. Guru Nanak Jayanti is on November 24th. Hazrat Ali’s birthday is on December 23rd, and Christmas is on Friday, December 25th.
