In a horrific development in Bengaluru's Uttarahalli, the police confirmed that a 34-year-old woman, who they initially thought had died by suicide, was murdered by her own minor daughter. The victim's minor nephew was also part of the sinister plot, the investigation revealed.

The victim, Netravathi, was reportedly a resident of Uttarahalli's Circle Maramma Temple Road. She was a helper at a loan recovery company and was separated from her husband. The trouble began when Netravathi found out her 17-year-old daughter was in a relationship with a same-age boy who was a Class 9 drop-out. All hell broke loose when the mother learnt that the boy often visited the Class 10 girl at their house, news reports said.

The boy was a friend of Netravathi's sister Anitha's son — who is reportedly younger than him by a few years. It is through him that the two teenagers met and started dating. However, the couple were not happy with the way Netravathi handled the situation — barring them from meeting again. The girl met with her boyfriend and friends at a mall on October 24, Friday, and asked them to meet her at her house the following night.

Planned crime

As decided, the four boys reached Netravathi's home at night. The girl had told them that her mother drinks liquor and goes to bed early, Aaj Tak said in a report. When Netravathi saw the boys, she reportedly got furious and threatened to call the police. She grabbed the boy's mobile phone, and he reacted by choking her. The group reportedly strangled her to death using a towel in the girl's presence. According to news reports, they then hung her body using a saree in her bedroom to make it look like a suicide. They left the crime scene after locking the door from outside.

Netravathi's partner for five years showed up at the house the next day but thought the mother-daughter duo was out of town as the doors remained locked. On Monday, Anitha contacted the man enquiring about her sister and was surprised to know that her residence was locked. She went to the house, peeked through the ventilation, and saw her sister's body hanging in the room, the report added.

Truth revealed

When the police got involved, Anitha noticed fear gripping her son, who soon spilled the beans. The victim's daughter had reached her grandparents only on October 29, Wednesday, the police found out. The fact that she was missing for so many days helped the police to connect the dots, and it was only a matter of time before the entire picture became evident.

The girl told the cops that she was not part of the murder and her boyfriend and his pals threatened her with a knife against opening up to anyone. She confessed that the four friends took her to another girl's house where she lived till leaving for her grandparents, the report added.

The police told the press that a case of murder has been registered based on a complaint filed by Anitha and all four juveniles except her son have been arrested.
