Ten injured in Stabbing on London-bound train in Cambridgeshire
LONDON, Nov 2: Ten people were injured in a mass stabbing on a London-bound train in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, late Saturday, with nine reportedly sustaining life-threatening injuries, UK police said.
“Ten people have been taken to hospital following a multiple stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire. Nine are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries. A major incident has been declared,” police said on X. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. Armed officers, supported by multiple police vehicles and a fleet of ambulances, swarmed Huntingdon railway station after the train was halted.
Counter-terrorism units are now involved in the investigation. The train was travelling from Doncaster to London’s King’s Cross Station. As per the local media reports, witnesses reported seeing a man wielding a large knife, describing “blood everywhere” as passengers hid in the washrooms to escape.
Some passengers were reportedly stamped on in the chaos. After the train stopped, police tasered and restrained a suspect on the platform.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “appalling” and “deeply concerning,” offering his thoughts to the victims and praising emergency services. Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood confirmed that two people had been taken into custody.
The East of England Ambulance Service deployed a large-scale response to Huntingdon station, including ambulances, air ambulances, and tactical commanders.
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has urged passengers to defer rail travel, with disruption expected until the end of Sunday. In a statement early Sunday, LNER Managing Director David Horne said he was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the incident and thanked emergency services for their “quick and professional” response.
Conservative MP Kevin Hollinrake highlighted the “horrifying scenes in Huntingdon.”
