After facing several near-misses in the past, India finally crossed the line to win their first-ever ICC women’s trophy. The team had suffered heartbreaks before, losing the 2017 World Cup final, the 2020 T20 World Cup final, and the semifinals of the 2018 and 2023 T20 World Cups. This time, however, they celebrated a long-awaited world title.
India defended a huge total of 298 in the final, thanks to Deepti Sharma, who took an outstanding five-wicket haul, and Shafali Verma, who claimed two important wickets. Deepti dismissed top batters like Laura Wolvaardt, Annerie Dercksen, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk, and Sinalo Jafta to achieve her five-wicket feat. Shafali removed Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp, helping India protect the big score.
Batting first, India posted 298/6, with Shafali and Deepti scoring half-centuries. Shafali made 87 off 78 balls, while Deepti contributed a quick 58 from 58 deliveries, giving the innings a strong finish. Earlier, Shafali had shared a 104-run opening stand with Smriti Mandhana.
Shafali was awarded Player of the Match, while Deepti earned Player of the Tournament for her 212 runs and 22 wickets in the tournament.
