Supermoon 2025: Moon to be bigger and brighter on November 5, will be closest to Earth; Know when to watch in Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad

In November, a remarkable natural event will dazzle the sky at night. On the night of November 5, 2025, a supermoon will take place, appearing to be larger and brighter than all of the other full moons throughout the entire year. As per a Livescience report, the largest Supermoon of 2025 will be about 221,818 miles (356,980 kilometers) from Earth, which will make it the closest full Moon of the year, as per AstroPixels. This Supermoon will also be the closest full Moon since February 2019.

You don’t need a telescope or any special equipment to appreciate the celestial event — it is visible with the naked eye on clear skies.

What is a Supermoon and why does it appear brighter than usual?

According to the official website of NASA, a “supermoon” occurs when a full Moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, a point known as perigee. During every 27-day orbit around Earth, the Moon reaches both its perigee, about 226,000 miles (363,300 km) from Earth, and its farthest point, or apogee, about 251,000 miles (405,500 km) from Earth.

According to the Associated Press report, this supermoon in November will be about 222,000 miles (around 357,000 kilometers) away, making it the biggest, brightest full moon of 2025.

In India, the supermoon will become visible on the evening of November 5, soon after the sun sets, and will be visible for the rest of the night. According to the Money Control Hindi report, the supermoon will reach its peak at 6:49 PM.

What time should skywatchers in Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad look up?

In Delhi, Lucknow, and Chandigarh, the moon can be seen at about 6 PM; in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, at about 6:15 pm; Kolkata and Patna will experience the Supermoon from about 5:15 PM. Southern cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad will have a view beginning around 6 PM. For towns like Shimla, Manali, and Leh, the Supermoon will be visible around 5:30 PM.

The supermoon will be visible across the globe, including the USA, Europe, Dubai, Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, and multiple other regions. For the USA, the timing for the best viewing experience will be just after sunset when the moon looks largest near the horizon. A clear sky is all that’s needed to enjoy this breathtaking view.

You will not require any telescopes or specialized equipment in order to see the remarkable space spectacle. Simply take a look outside and try to find someplace away from the light pollution from a city or town, for example a park, beach or open field. The farther distance away from an artificial light source, the clearer and the brighter the moon will appear to you. Even if it does not appear to be an extreme size difference, the brightness of the supermoon will create a spectacular spectacle.
