Tejashwi Yadav’s big poll promise: ‘Will give Rs 30,000 to women on Makar Sankranti’

With just two days left for the first phase of polling for the assembly elections in Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav made a big poll pitch on Tuesday, announcing an annual financial assistance of Rs 30,000 for women if the alliance comes to power.
 
Yadav, who is the chief minister candidate of the opposition INDIA bloc, said the money will be transferred to the account of the beneficiaries under the Maa Behen Maan yojana on Makar Sankranti on January 14.
 
“We all know Makar Sankranti is coming; it is a new year for people. It happens on January 14, we will form the government, and under the Maa Behen Maan yojana, we will deposit Rs 30,000 in the accounts of women, covering for the whole year,” he said, addressing a press conference in Patna.
 
The RJD leader noted that the scheme would benefit women during the time of inflation. “For five years, one will get Rs 1.5 lakh and for one year, Rs 30,000, which will be given on January 14,” he said.
 
‘Farmers to get bonuses over MSP’
 
Yadav also announced that if the INDIA bloc comes to power, farmers would be given Rs 300 per quintal of paddy and Rs 400 for wheat as a bonus over MSP.
 
All Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and Primary Marketing Cooperative Societies (Vyapar Mandals) will be given the status of "people's representatives" in the state, he said.
 
"Besides, we are also planning to give honorarium to managers of registered 8,400 vyapar mandals and PACS in the state, if we form the government," added the RJD leader.
 
Assembly elections in Bihar will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with the counting of votes set to take place on November 14.
