Bengal Turns Battleground Over Special Revision Of Voter Rolls

The fallout over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has erupted into a full-blown political storm in West Bengal. What was meant to be a routine administrative process has triggered sharp clashes between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew are set to lead a massive protest rally in Kolkata, calling the exercise politically motivated. The BJP, however, has defended the move as a necessary step to remove fake voters.
