Bad news for Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan, after allegedly importing illegal cars, actor now accused of…
Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan is once again making headlines. Earlier, the actor was reportedly linked to illegally importing cars. Now the Pathanamthitta Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Kerala has issued a notice to the Lokah actor, ordering him to appear in person on December 3rd. The case relates to the Rose Brand Biryani Rice, for which Dulquer is the brand ambassador. The petition seeks compensation of Rs 5 lakh, the price of the rice (Rs 10,250), and court costs. The Commission has ordered all three accused in the case to appear before the Commission on December 3rd to file their responses.
Why is Dulquer Salmaan making headlines?
The action stems from a complaint from a catering firm owner, who claimed that wedding guests suffered food poisoning after eating biryani made with this rice. Dulquer has been named as the third accused because his advertisements allegedly misled consumers.
What did the complainant say?
The complainant, P.N. Jayarajan, is said to be a resident of Pathanamthitta and runs a local catering business. Jayarajan claims he purchased a 50-kilogram bag of Rose brand biryani rice for a wedding. The rice cost only Rs 10,250, but the bag didn’t even mention the packaging date or expiry date. This raises questions about the product’s safety.
According to Jayarajan, several guests fell ill after being served biryani made with this rice. They complained of vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. This not only increased medical expenses but also damaged Jayarajan’s firm’s reputation. Many wedding events have cancelled their orders.
Against whom was the petition filed?
The first accused is the managing director of Rose Brand Biryani Rice. The second accused is the manager of Malabar Biryani & Spices, Pathanamthitta, where the rice was purchased. The third accused is actor Dulquer Salmaan, its brand ambassador.
What is the allegation against Dulquer Salmaan?
Dulquer Salmaan announced that he would become the face of ‘Rose Biryani Rice’ in May 2024. The petition states that the petitioner was inspired to purchase the brand’s rice by Dulquer Salmaan’s advertisements and promotions in visual media.
