'Kabhi Seema, Kabhi Sweety, Kabhi Saraswati': Rahul Claims Brazilian Model's Pic On Multiple Voter IDs
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday intensified his allegations of large-scale voter manipulation in Haryana, claiming the party lost eight constituencies by narrow margins, one by as few as 32 votes.
“Congress lost the Haryana election by 22,779 votes in total. That’s how close it was,” Gandhi said during his third press conference under the banner ‘The H Files’.
Citing what he called “proof of centralised voter fraud,” Gandhi displayed several instances of duplicate entries in the state’s voter rolls. He showed 22 voter IDs featuring the same photograph of a Brazilian model, Matheus Ferrero, available on a free stock image website. “She votes in 10 different booths under names like Seema, Sweety, and Saraswati,” Gandhi alleged.
One Woman's Pic Appeared On 100 Voter IDs
In another example, he claimed that one woman’s photograph appeared on 100 voter IDs within a single Assembly segment, while another woman’s image was repeated 223 times across two polling booths. “This is being done to create space for outsiders to vote, especially BJP workers from other states,” he alleged, adding that this was why the Election Commission “destroys CCTV footage” from polling stations.
“The Election Commission can remove duplicates in seconds. Why don’t they? Because they are helping the BJP,” he charged, also alleging that 3.5 lakh voter names were deleted from Haryana’s rolls ahead of the election.
Election Commission On Rahul's Charges
Sources in the Election Commission, however, dismissed the charges, questioning the role of Congress polling agents. “Polling agents are supposed to object if they suspect a voter’s identity or if the person has already voted,” a senior official said, adding that Gandhi should clarify if he supports the Special Intensive Revision drive to remove duplicate or ineligible voters.
The press conference comes a day before the first phase of the Bihar Assembly polls, as the Congress continues to spotlight alleged electoral malpractices under the banner ‘The H Files’.
