Telegram CEO Pavel Durov reveals why he says no to sugar, alcohol, and coffee

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov recently revealed that he tries to follow a disciplined life, and as a part of this effort, he does not consume sugar or alcohol.
In a podcast with Lex Fridman, the founder and CEO of the messaging platform, shared his secret to leading a disciplined life. This includes saying no to sugar, alcohol and even coffee.
This, he says, is his way to stay away from "addictive" substances and helps him in staying close to his lifestyle goals.
" The more you consume sugar, the more you want it. The hungrier you get. So if you want to stay efficient and healthy, why consume processed sugar? You will just end up snacking all the time," said Durov in the podcast.
According to Harvard Medical School, problems occur when a person consumes too much added sugar. In a study published in 2014 in JAMA Internal Medicine, researchers found a link between a high-sugar diet and a greater risk of dying from heart disease.
Similarly, when it comes to alcohol as well, the effects on the human body are harmful. "When it comes to alcohol consumption, there is no safe amount that does not affect health," mentioned a note shared by the World Health Organisation in the Lancet Public Health.
“We cannot talk about a so-called safe level of alcohol use. It doesn’t matter how much you drink – the risk to the drinker’s health starts from the first drop of any alcoholic beverage. The only thing that we can say for sure is that the more you drink, the more harmful it is – or, in other words, the less you drink, the safer it is,” explains Dr Carina Ferreira-Borges in the statement released by WHO in 2023.
