The police claimed to have solved a firing incident in which two unidentified persons had opened fire at a resident of Machhiwara on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Roshan Lal of Bazigar Basti, Machhiwara, survived the attack as the bullet passed after brushing the lower part of his abdomen.
As there was no clue in the case initially, the Machhiwara police, led by Harwinder Singh, initiated a probe against unidentified persons after booking them under Sections 109, 3(5) of the BNS and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act on Friday.
The police claimed to have arrested two persons, identified as Arashdeep Singh, alias Arash, of Kalanour in Gurdaspur and Gurdial Singh Padda of Kalanaur, for allegedly attempting to kill the complainant, Roshan Lal. Gurlal Singh of Radian village and Karan Masih of Deol village in Kalanaur, who were also booked for allegedly supplying arms to the prime suspects, were yet to be arrested.
Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav said a team of police personnel, led and supervised by SP (D) Pawanjit, DSP (D) Mohit Kumar Singla, and Samrala DSP Karmajit Singh Grewal, had arrested the main suspects from different places on the basis of information gathered during investigation.
Gurlal had supplied the weapon to the prime suspects through Karan.

Though the police are yet to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the attempt to murder, some old rivalry is suspected to be the reason behind the incident.
