Typhoon Kalmaegi:  What comes as bad news for the people is that private telecom companies, such as Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea, are planning to increase their tariff plans. And the unanimous decision could be taken as soon as next month. There have been reports for quite some time that tariff plans may become more expensive. As per several media reports, the telecom giants Airtel, Jio and VI can increase the tariff plans from next month, i.e. December 2025. Users may have to pay 10-12 percent more to keep their numbers active and use the services. However, there has been no official announcement from the private telecom players in this regard yet.

Marcos’s ‘State Of National Calamity’ Declaration

The typhoon affected nearly 2 million people and over 560,000 villagers were displaced. Nearly, 450,000 evacuated to emergency shelters, as per the Office of Civil Defence. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr declared the “state of national calamity” while conducting a meeting with disaster-response officials. The meeting was held to assess the typhoon’s aftermath and to prevent food hoarding and overpricing.

Is Another Tropical Cyclone Ready To Hit Philippines?

Disaster-response officials have raised an alarm that another tropical cyclone from the Pacific could strengthen into a super typhoon. It can hit the northern Philippines early next week.

Among the deceased, six were killed when a Philippine air force chopper crashed in Agusan del Sur on Tuesday.

Kalmaegi triggered flash floods and led to the swelling of a river and other bodies of water in Cebu province.

“We did everything we could for the typhoon but, you know, there are really some unexpected things like flash floods,” The Associated Press quoted Cebu Gov Pamela Baricuatro as saying.

Notably, Cebu province was still recovering from the massive earthquake which hit the region on Sept 30. At least 79 people were killed when houses collapsed.
