'Gomorrah - The Origins' prequel series revealed; Roberto Saviano returns as creator

The world of the popular Italian crime saga Gomorrah is expanding with a prequel series. Titled Gomorrah - The Origins, the series will explore the origin story of Pietro Savastano, the lead character in the six-season series that ran from 2014 to 2021, based on journalist-turned-author Roberto Saviano.

Saviano is once again involved as creator alongside Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli. Deadline broke the news with a teaser trailer giving viewers a glimpse of the 2026 release platformed by Sky network.

The six-episode show, expected to span three seasons, will be set in Naples of 1977, training its lens on the childhood of the crime figure.

“Pietro is a tough city kid who grew up in the poorest parts of Secondigliano. He and his friends survive any way they can, riding their mopeds around town and committing petty theft. But he has a big dream: to become like Angelo ‘A Sirena, the neighborhood’s ‘king’. When he manages to get in the graces of the young boss, he finds himself caught in a power game far beyond him. He ends up wondering whether this dark, violent criminal life is really what he wants or if his love for Imma can save him from such a fate,” reads the official logline.

The younger Savastano is played by Luca Lubrano. Francesco Pellegrino, Flavio Furno, Tullia Venezia, and Fabiola Balestriere are cast in other lead roles.

The rest of the cast comprises Antonio Buono, Ciro Burzo, Luigi Cardone, Antonio Del Duca, Mattia Francesco Cozzolino, Junior Rancel Rodriguez Arcia, and Antonio Incalza.

The first four episodes are helmed by Marco D’Amore, with Francesco Ghiaccio directing the other two.
