Ajit Singh Chaudhary, a third-year medical student who went missing 19 days ago in Russia’s Ufa city,  was confirmed dead on Thursday. His body was found in a dam near the White River. The Indian Embassy in Russia informed Chaudhary's family about his death on Thursday, according to reports.

Ajit Singh hails from Kaphunwara village of Laxmangarh in Rajasthan’s Alwar. A medical  student at Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa City, Ajit was last seen on October 19. He reportedly told his friends that he was going to get milk from the warden, but never returned.

“We have received information through the embassy that the body of  student Ajit Chaudhary has been found. The body has been identified by university  students. The process of bringing the body to India has started. Before that, a post-mortem will be conducted by a medical board. It may take 2 days for the body to arrive in India,” Alwar Saras Dairy Chairman Nitin Sangwan, who had met with Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh in this regard, told reporters.

Russian police, who conducted a search, found his jacket and mobile phone on a  riverbank in Ufa. Four hours later, his shoes were also found nearby. The White River is a few kilometers away from his college campus, and the river was overflowing in October.

After his disappearance was reported, his family reported receiving a call from the Russian police on October 20. Chaudhary’s uncle Bhoom Singh had told media about how even the warden wasn’t responding to their queries and it was his roommate who spoke to the warden.

At that time, the family suspected something was amiss. Bhoom Singh had also alleged that the warden tried to indicate that Ajit jumped into the river. Just an hour before his disappearance, Ajit had spoken to his mother, Santara Devi, and sister via video call to wish then Diwali. The family said he was scheduled to return to India next month.
