Remove Stray Dogs From Bus Stands, Railway Stations: Top Court's Big Order
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the removal of stray dogs from educational institutions, hospitals, bus stands, sports complexes, and railway stations, directing that the canines be sent to dog shelters. According to the top court, the removal should be done within eight weeks.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria, which is monitoring stray dog-bite incidents through a suo motu proceeding, said that the stray dogs must not be released back to the same place where they were picked up from.
The court ordered that the report submitted by the amicus curiae be taken on record and will be a part of its order.
It also confirmed the Rajasthan High Court's directives that state government officials, municipal authorities, and road and transport authorities remove cattle from highways and expressways and rehabilitate them in shelters.
"All national highways will have helpline numbers for reporting stray cattle. The chief secretaries of all states will ensure strict compliance with these directives," it said.
