SKUAST-J organizes one-day ‘Kisan Mela’ at Sudhmahadev

UDHAMPUR, Nov 7: A one-day ‘Kisan Mela’ was successfully organized by SKUAST-Jammu at Sudhmahadev under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) B N Tripathi and supervision of Prof (Dr) Vinod Gupta, Professor and Head, Division of Agricultural Extension Education and Principal Investigator of the Project.
The event was held in collaboration with the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Jammu, and the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh. More than 500 farmers from various parts of Udhampur and adjoining regions participated with great enthusiasm. To facilitate farmer participation, the University arranged bus facilities from different villages.
The ‘mela’ was graced by Prof Tripathi as chief guest. He along with MLA Chenani Balwant Singh Mankotia inaugurated the fair. Dr Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, Dr Sanjay Gupta, Director Animal Husbandry Department, Dr Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dean Student Welfare, Balkar Singh, president, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and Dr Ranjit Kotwal, SDM Chenani, were among other dignitaries present on the occasion.
In his address, Prof Tripathi highlighted the pivotal role of scientific agriculture in achieving sustainable rural development. He stated that SKUAST-Jammu is fully committed to translating laboratory-based research into practical solutions that benefit farmers directly.
Balwant Singh Mankotia said that agriculture is the backbone of the rural economy. He assured full support from the Government in implementing farmer-centric initiatives.
Various departments and organizations, including the Department of Floriculture, KVK Reasi, Department of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Department of Sheep Husbandry, Department of Fisheries, and several Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), had set up exhibition stalls showcasing scientific technologies, improved inputs, and Government schemes for the benefit of the farmers.
A team of experts, including Prof Vivek Arya, Prof Pawan Kumar, Prof Munish Sharma, Prof Vijay Kumar Sharma, Dr Banarsi Lal, Dr Sanjay Kaushal, Dr Neerja Sharma and Dr. Mandeep Singh Azad, interacted extensively with farmers, addressing field-level challenges and providing solutions related to crop production, animal health and farm diversification.
Progressive farmers were honoured during the event for their outstanding contributions to agriculture and allied sectors. The programme concluded with a vibrant cultural performance by students of Government Higher Secondary School, Sudhmahadev.
