Class VII girl dies, grandfather hurt in hit-&-run mishap

A minor girl died while her grandfather suffered injuries after their scooty was hit by an unidentified vehicle while they were returning home from school in Northwest Delhi, the police said in Friday.

The girl, a student of Class VII, was rushed to Fortis Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, they added.

The police got a PCR call regarding the accident at the Adarsh Nagar police station. After getting information, a police team reached the spot where it found that the injured were shifted to hospital. The police found a scooty in a damaged condition.

The girl, a resident or Gali No. 4, Rameshwar Nagar, Azadpur, was studying at DAV School, Model Town, an official said. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the victim was returning home with her grandfather, Meer Singh, on a scooty when an unidentified vehicle hit them on Road No. 51 around 2:30 pm, the official added.

A case under the BNS has been registered and further investigation has been initiated, the police said. The police are scanning CCTV footage from the nearby shops to trace the offending vehicle.
