Rs 1960000000: Huge money spent by 26 billionaires for Zohran Mamdani’s loss, they are…, money was used in…
Zohran Mamdani: To defeat the newly elected New York Mayor, Democratic leader Zohran Mamdani, 26 billionaires opened their coffers and spent $22 million (approximately Rs 196 crore) to ensure the victory of Mamdani’s rival, but the power of money proved futile in front of the power of the people.
According to a Forbes report, this money was used to run a massive campaign against Mamdani. Prominent tycoons included Bloomberg LP co-founder Michael Bloomberg, hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, and others. Each of them contributed more than $100,000 to support Mamdani’s closest rival, Andrew Cuomo.
Michael Bloomberg spent $8 million to help Cuomo win the primary, while Ackman spent $1.75 million and Lader $750,000. More than half of the donations, approximately $13.6 million, were received before Mamdani filed his nomination.
Mamdani had said during his campaign in October that billionaires like Bill Ackman and Ronald Lauder have opened their coffers to defeat him because they feel their existence is in danger.
Some of these billionaires have had a change of heart since the election victory. Ackman tweeted on X, wishing Mamdani well and assuring him of all possible support.
Meanwhile, JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon told Fortune magazine that Mamdani is more of a Marxist than a socialist, but since he has won, I offer him help.
