Third Day of Flight Reductions

This problem has arisen due to a shortage of air traffic control staff. This was the third day of government-ordered flight reductions.

The US Senate voted late Sunday night to advance a bill to end the government shutdown, leading to a rise in US airline stocks before the market opens on Monday, November 10.

United Airlines led the way in pre-market trading, rising 1.9 percent, followed by Delta and American Airlines, both up 1.4 percent, while Alaska Air added 1%.

US Shutdown Impacts Flights

According to Reuters, the Federal Aviation Administration has ordered a 4 percent reduction in daily flights at 40 major airports starting Friday due to air traffic control safety concerns. This reduction will increase to 6 percent on Tuesday and then 10 percent by November 14.

American Airlines urged the Senate to expedite the bill, saying that federal aviation employees have not been paid for 40 days and that its customers are facing delays and cancellations due to the government shutdown.
