Rajnath Singh issues STRONG message after deadly Red Fort blast, vows ‘those responsible for this tragedy will…’
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday issued a firm statement following the deadly explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, declaring that those responsible for the attack “will not be spared” and promising that the government will ensure justice for the victims. Speaking just hours after the powerful blast that claimed at least nine lives and injured over twenty others on Monday evening, Singh denounced the act as “a cowardly attempt to disrupt peace” and said all security and investigative agencies have been instructed to respond with full force.
“I wish to assure my fellow citizens that the country’s leading investigative agencies are conducting a swift and thorough inquiry into the incident. The findings of the investigation will soon be made public. I want to firmly assure the nation that those responsible for this tragedy will be brought to justice and will not be spared under any circumstances,” Singh said during an event in the capital.
He added that the Central government is keeping a close watch on the ongoing investigation, which involves multiple agencies, including the Delhi Police Special Cell and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA is expected to formally take over the probe in the coming days, he said.
Suicide attack to avoid getting caught, cause maximum damage
Preliminary investigations into the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station suggest it may have been a suicide attack designed to inflict maximum casualties. The powerful blast occurred on Monday evening when a Hyundai i20 bearing a Haryana registration number blew up near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, killing at least nine people and injuring several others. Following the explosion, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Mumbai were placed on high alert, with stepped-up security at major public areas and religious sites.
According to sources, the initial probe indicates that the suspect intended to carry out the explosion deliberately. After learning about the Faridabad terror module being dismantled, he allegedly decided to execute a suicide bombing to cause large-scale destruction and evade arrest.
Investigating agencies are currently pursuing multiple leads to establish the exact motive and connections behind the blast.
The explosion came just hours after authorities uncovered a major terror network linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in Faridabad, where 2,900 kg of explosives and a stockpile of weapons were seized.
Police also revealed that in recent days, two Jammu and Kashmir-based doctors: Adil Ahmad Rather and Muzammil were arrested for alleged links with the same terror outfits. Their arrest, officials believe, may have triggered panic among other members of the module, prompting the Red Fort blast.
