Bihar: RJD alleges BJP agents distributed slips with party symbol, leaders’ photos in poll booths

The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Tuesday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party polling agents were distributing slips with the photographs of leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the party’s election symbol to voters inside polling booths in Bihar’s Motihari Assembly constituency.
Voting in 122 of the 243 Assembly seats was underway on Tuesday in the second and final phase of the Bihar elections.
The Opposition party claimed that such incidents were taking place in booth numbers 229 and 230 and that similar complaints were being received from several other booths in the constituency.
Responding to the allegations, the Election Commission said that a first information report has been registered in the matter.
Two arrests have also been made, said the poll body.
Ahead of the second phase of voting, RJD leader and the Opposition’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav said that the Mahagathbandhan alliance will not allow “vote theft or dishonesty”.
Criticising the Election Commission for not having disclosed gender-wise data of the voters in the first phase four days after polling, Yadav said this was happening for the first time.
“Earlier, it was given immediately,” he added.
