New expressways: 11 more expressways to be built in UP, network of over 1500 km to be ready
Uttar Pradesh is rapidly progressing towards building the largest expressway network in the country. Over the next four years, 11 new expressways will be constructed in the state, under the responsibility of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). These roads will further strengthen the state’s connectivity with states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar.
New expressways: Uttar Pradesh is preparing to take its road infrastructure to the next level. Already the state with the largest number of expressways in the country, it is now planning to add 11 more expressways over the next four years. The construction and operation of these projects will be overseen by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). With the completion of these roads, not only will UP’s connectivity with neighboring states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar be strengthened, but travel from the western regions of the state to Purvanchal will also become faster.
According to UPEIDA officials, the timelines for DPR, land acquisition, construction, and completion of all expressways have been finalized. According to the plan, the state will be connected to the country’s longest expressway network by 2026. Significantly, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway will be connected to a new link expressway via Farrukhabad, with the land acquisition process targeted to be completed by February 2026. Meanwhile, the Chitrakoot Link Expressway is planned to be completed by August 2027. Additionally, the Link Expressway being built on the outskirts of the capital Lucknow will connect the Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways. Its alignment has been finalized, and land acquisition will begin by February.
Network of more than 1500 km
According to UPEIDA’s action plan, the alignments and estimates for the Jewar Link, Jhansi Link, Meerut-Haridwar, Noida-Jewar, Chitrakoot-Rewa, Vindhya Expressway, and Vindhya-Purvanchal Expressway will be ready between November and February this year. The combined length of all proposed projects will exceed 1,500 kilometers. The objective of these expressways is not only to provide faster travel but also to foster economic development. The UP government is working on a mission to transform the state into an industrial hub. After developing megacities like Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, and Varanasi in the past few years, the focus is now on connecting tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Industrial Corridors Along Every Highway
In addition to new expressways, the government is also developing industrial corridors along every major road. These corridors will create manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing hubs, boosting both local employment and investment. From Bundelkhand to Purvanchal and the Terai region, investment proposals are pouring in. Improved road connectivity will play a crucial role in bringing these investments to fruition.
Travel time will be reduced, and the speedometer of development will increase.
The new expressway network will not only reduce travel time between cities but will also boost the freight and transport sectors. Link roads and ring roads connected to the expressways will directly connect cities, reducing traffic congestion.
