'Kaantha' worldwide box office collection Day 1: Dulquer Salmaan starrer takes a slow start; initial audience reviews are positive

Dulquer Salmaan's latest release Kaantha has hit the screens this Friday (November 14). Technically a Tamil film that is also dubbed into Telugu, this period drama is directed by Selvamani Selvaraj with Samuthirakani, Rana Daggubati and Bhagyashri Borse in key roles. Kaantha has taken a slow start at the box office as the early estimates are coming in.
Allegedly based on the life of Tamil cinema's first superstar MG Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, Kaantha gained extremely positive reviews from the special press show conducted two days ago and the initial feedback from the viewers seems to be positive as well. Whether this translates into solid box office collections or not, time will tell.
Kaantha reported roughly 15 percent average all-India occupancy in the morning shows with the noon shows showing a slight jump in collections. With the initial word-of-mouth being on the positive side, the film should get momentum as the day goes on. The film has recorded an opening day advance of approximately Rs 3 crore including premiere shows.
As per early estimates, Kaantha should comfortably go past the Rs 5 crore mark worldwide as a bare minimum and is targeting an opening day of Rs 6-8 crore according to the current trends. All this could, of course, change if the momentum picks up pace and that is where the positive word-of-mouth could come into play.
How the film fares in the evening and night shows will also give us a clear idea about the general response from the public, especially the family audience. Keep checking this page as we will be updating the trends towards the end of the day.
