Bank Service Closed: Bank announcement.! This service will be closed for bank customers from December 1st; sending money will be difficult.
Bank Service Closed: SBI has announced that the mCASH service will be discontinued effective November 30, 2025. Customers will no longer be able to send money using mCASH without adding a beneficiary. The bank has declared UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS as safer options for the future.
Bank Service Closed: The country’s largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI), has made an important announcement that its popular mCASH service will be completely discontinued after November 30, 2025. This means that customers who used to send money through mCASH without adding a beneficiary will no longer be able to use this facility. SBI has clarified that both sending and claiming mCASH through OnlineSBI and the YONO Lite app will be discontinued.
This move will directly affect customers who used mCASH to send money instantly via mobile number or email. SBI stated that the change is necessary and customers should now adopt other secure digital options.
How will you send money now?
Following the closure of mCASH, SBI has advised customers to use secure and modern payment methods. The bank has listed four main options—UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS. These four methods are the most popular today and are also fast, secure, and convenient.
SBI issued a notice on its website, stating, “mCASH service will not be available after 30.11.2025. Please use alternative methods like UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS.”
What was mCASH?
mCASH was a unique feature of SBI that allowed customers to send money without adding a beneficiary simply by entering their mobile number or email ID. Upon sending money, the receiver received a secure link and an 8-digit passcode via SMS or email. The receiver could transfer the money to any of their bank accounts using the SBI mCASH app or SBI Link. This feature was especially popular among those who frequently sent small payments.
What were the features of the mCASH app?
The mCASH app was downloadable from the Google Play Store. After setting an MPIN and logging in, the receiver could claim the money sent by the SBI customer and transfer the funds to any bank account. Additionally, they could save an account of their choice for future reference. These features will now be discontinued after November 30th.
UPI is an alternative to mCASH.
SBI has advised its customers to prioritize UPI over mCASH. SBI has its own UPI app (BHIM SBI Pay) that works for all bank customers. Online shopping, bill payments, mobile recharges, grocery, taxis, and more are all possible through UPI. Therefore, SBI has clearly stated that this system is now the most reliable alternative to mCASH.
IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS will also remain operational.
For customers who prefer bank transfers, the remaining three options will remain available.
⦁ IMPS: Instant transfer, 24×7
⦁ NEFT: All-day, batch processing
⦁ RTGS: Best for large transactions
Why was mCASH discontinued?
The biggest question now is why SBI suddenly discontinued mCASH. The bank cites two main reasons:
⦁ mCASH was based on an outdated technology platform.
⦁ New methods like UPI made it irrelevant.
UPI is ubiquitous, almost everyone uses it, and payments are processed in seconds. Consequently, mCASH usage declined rapidly. This is why SBI is now embarking on a major digital transformation strategy.
