A day after recording a resounding victory in the Bihar assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has suspended former Union minister R.K. Singh and two other leaders for “anti-party activities”.

The party has also issued a show-cause notice, asking them to explain within a week why they shouldn't be expelled from the party.

In its letter to Singh, the BJP noted that his activities fell under the category of anti-party and indisciplined behaviour and had caused harm to the organisation.

"Therefore, as per the instructions, you are being suspended from the party, and a show-cause notice is being issued asking why you should not be expelled from the party," it said.

Legislative Council member Ashok Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal are the other two leaders who have been issued a similar notice.

Singh has been critical of the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar as well as the alliance leadership ever since his defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In his latest jibe, the former minister claimed that the state government was involved in a Rs 62,000-crore corruption scandal linked to a power project.

A former diplomat, Singh joined the BJP in 2013. A two-time MP from Arrah, he served as the minister of power in the first Modi government.

BJP's action against Singh, a day after the poll results were announced, is seen as its effort to showcase the party's internal discipline and coherence.
